717hosting has implemented three layers of Spam protection. 1. The Server has access to RBL lists 2. BoxTrapper Spam Trap
3. Spam Assassin
Click "Read More" to see an explanation of these features of visit the forum for additional help.
First, the server that your websites resides on is constantly filtering out known "Spammer" IP addressees buy accessing RBL lists. These list's have been constantly updated for many years and contains thousands of IP's that have been identified as "Spammers" "BoxTrapper" protects your inbox from spam by forcing all people not on your white list to reply to a verification email before they can send mail to you. This option can be tricky but if you get use to the setting and add all your personal contacts you should find good filtering results. Last is the ultimate option: "Spam Assassin" Spam Assassin is an automated mail filter that uses a wide range of heuristic algorithms on email headers and message bodies to identify "SPAM" (unsolicited email). Spam Assassin is designed to identify and mark emails that score beyond your threshold value. An e-mail’s Spam Assassin score is the sum of values given to certain known spam characteristics. For more information, please visit the developers' website: http://www.spamassassin.org Spam Assassin can delete emails you would like to keep, if you are not careful. Please be aware of this to avoid losing important email. If you always use the same computer to access your email you might consider using a Mail client Application such as MS Outlook of Thunderbird. These programs have Junk and Spam filter options built in. |
